In Oderzo (TV), Italy, we have recently installed a state-of-the-art automated painting line for car bumpers and exterior plastic components. This advanced system is designed to deliver top-tier efficiency, quality, and sustainability in the automotive sector.
Technical Specifications of the Painting Line
This automatic tracking painting line is engineered to handle large parts up to 2200 x 1400 mm with a maximum height of 1600 mm. With a throughput of one skid every 90 seconds, the line operates using 14 high-performance robots.
The core of the system is a custom-built skid conveyor, which enables greater production flexibility while optimizing floor space.
Full Painting Process: From Pre-Treatment to Curing
The line includes a complete process chain, ensuring ideal surface preparation and consistent finishing:
- Multi-stage power wash for part cleaning
- Static and robotic air-blow stations
- Hot air drying followed by cooling
- Robotized flaming booth to ensure proper paint adhesion
High-Performance Painting Booths
The paint application takes place across three fully automated spray booths with water curtain overspray removal and air recirculation. Each booth is equipped with opposed paint robots to ensure uniform and precise coverage:
- Primer booth with 2 robots
- Base coat booth with 4 robots
- Clear coat booth with 4 robots
Overspray is effectively captured and separated through a series of high-efficiency sludge removal systems, contributing to environmental protection and cost reduction.
Paint Curing and Climate Control
Following a ventilated flash-off zone, parts enter a convection curing oven, preceded by a pre-heating tunnel and followed by an elevated cooling section.
All paint application equipment mounted on the robots is supplied by 1K and 2K paint supply systems, located in ventilated paint supply rooms for enhanced safety and precision.
Intelligent Automation and Energy Efficiency
The entire line is managed by a Siemens PLC-based automation system with Profinet communication, allowing real-time monitoring, traceability, and maximum operational reliability.
A cutting-edge air treatment system with primary and recirculating units ensures precise temperature and humidity control, along with significant energy savings.
